I never thought the day would come that I would use a mattifying face lotion, or better yet, write a review on it. A few months ago I received a shipment of Embryolisse products, including the Emulsion Hydra-Mat lotion. When I first received it, I thought I would have no use for it and would be forced to give it away to someone. As this lotion promises to reduce shine and absorb excessive sebum, I decided to give it a try during the 4th of July weekend, knowing that I would be spending a lot of time outside. As I have mentioned before, my skin is normally on the dry side but during the summer months it tends to be more on the oily to normal side.
On July 4th, I put on the mattifying lotion in lieu of my regular face lotion in the morning and followed with my makeup as normal. The cream has a very light weight texture and absorbs into the face instantly. After being outside for 8+ hours in the heat and humidity my face did not once get oily or greasy and my makeup did not slide off as it otherwise would on such a hot day. I am very impressed with the product and highly recommend it for those with oily, normal or combination skin. This is not a product that I use everyday, but rather, only on hot days when I know my makeup will slide off and get oily otherwise.
I have never been a big fan of clothing, makeup or perfume designed by celebrities. My thought on it is as such: you should stick to what you’re good at and not try to make an extra buck by venturing into other industries.
When the Kardashian sisters came out with their own beauty line I never though I would like, or even purchase, any of their products. After seeing so many great reviews of their makeup line on youtube, I decided to give Kardashian Beauty a try. The first item that I purchased was their Au Natural Lip Set in the shade In The Flesh. The set comes with a lip liner, lipstick and lipgloss and smells of honey. I bought the lip set with the intention of returning it, thinking that I would hate it. Boy was I wrong! This is the perfect ‘nude’ lipstick/lipgloss for my skin tone that does not wash me out. Sometimes I wear the set together and sometimes I mix and match each individual piece from the set with my other lipsticks/lip-glosses. What’s even better is that I receive compliments every single time that I wear the set together.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I am not comparing Kardashian Beauty to makeup lines such as YSL, Chanel or even MAC. The Au Natural lip set does not stay on long and does not hydrate your lips, but when it’s on, it looks very nice. When purchasing any of the Kardashian Beauty products, as long as you expect it to look nice on but not be of the same quality as other high-end beauty lines, you too will love it!
I have been searching for the perfect makeup organizer for quite some time. I wanted one that can fit all of my makeup and still look presentable. When I came across the Sherrieblossom Icebox I instantly realized that I found the perfect organizer. It has the right amount of space with 6 tiers that include 5 wide drawers plus the top tier that comes with a lid. With the Icebox, you can organize your products in a variety of ways by using their removable and adjustable inserts. In addition, I love the simplistic and contemporary design that it offers.
The price is on the high side ($395) so it has to be a purchase that you absolutely want. Having said that, I guarantee that this is a piece that you will own for a very long time as long as you follow their instructions on how to clean and maintain it. This is definitely a purchase that I plan on making soon. Note that this item does always sell out so getting on a waiting list will be inevitable.
I’ve written about my love for Josie Maran products before (here), so I was very excited when she came out with an Argon Tinted Moisturizer. I have been a devoted user of Laura Mercier’s tinted moisturizer (post on it here) for years but am always looking for something newer and better. The minute I purchased the Josie Maran tinted moisturizer, I ran home to try it. Sad to say, I was not pleased with the results. I tried applying it with a damp beauty blender but the result was a heavy, almost tacky and sticky mess. The product did not blend into my skin and left it looking dry and cakey. I immediately washed my face of the product and applied my tried and true Laura Mercier. A few days later, I decided to give the Josie Maran product another try but this time applied it with a kabuki brush hoping that it will blend the product in better. Unfortunately, I got the same exact result as I did with the beauty blender.
After reading reviews, it looks like this product may work better on oily skin, but my skin was not having it. I guess I am back on the hunt for something better than Laura Mercier!
I purchased the Yves Saint Lauren Rouge Pur Couture Vernis À Lèvres Glossy Stain (in 17 Encre Rose) back in the fall after trying it on in a local department store and being amazed by its staying power, pigmentation and moisture. My biggest pet peeve is having to constantly reapply my lip product when I am out at an event. This lip product has the best of both worlds: it glides on like a gloss but stays on like a lip stain. When first applying the lip color, it feels extremely lightweight and the final color does not come out until it fully melts into your lips (which I love!) Even better, it stays on your lips hours after applying it and is not sticky at all. To give my lips even more shine, I will sometimes add a coat of sheer pink gloss over top of it ( I use this.) I give this product an A+!
A few months ago, L’Oreal came out with a lip product very similar to the YSL one; the L’Oreal Colour Riche Caresse Wet Shine Stain. Although I am not usually a big fan of drugstore lip products (again because of their lack of staying power), I decided to give this lip product a try as YSL and L’Oreal are the same company. When first applying the lip product, it feels as lightweight as the YSL product but a lot stickier. Luckily, after a few seconds, the stickiness goes away. This product is definitely not as pigmented or as long lasting as the YSL one and looks to me more like a tinted gloss than a stain. Lastly, it does dry out my lips a bit and needs a coat of chapstick once the color wears off. I give this product a C+/B-.
Final Judgement: I cannot say enough great things about the YSL lip product and believe that it is worth the $34 price tag. I know that when I put on the YSL glossy stain, I do not need to worry about constantly reapplying it. With the L’Oreal shine stain you cannot expect much from it with a price tag of $9.99. This is a product that I would only wear casually during the day when I am not looking to have much color on my lips and will not mind reapplying it frequently.
I am loving a bold lip these days, especially for the warmer months. I tend to put on minimal make-up most days, so adding a pop of color to my lips instantly glams up my look. My new-found lip color obsession is MAC’s lipstick in ‘Impassioned‘. As much as I love my pink lipsticks, the reason that I love this color so much is because it has less of that pink undertone (like ‘Candy Yum Yum’) and more of a coral undertone. Another reason that I love this color is because of how matte it is. For the summer months, I like to put on more matte lipsticks versus shiny ones because the rest of my face tends to be more glowing/shiny during that time so I do not want to overload on that. What’s your favorite lipstick for the summer?
I finally got around to purchasing my first beautyblender a few weeks ago (I actually bought these on ideeli.com) and am absolutely in love with it! I use it to put on my tinted moisturizer on days that I want more sheer coverage and to blend in my under eye concealer and highlighter. All I do is wet the beatyblender and squeeze out the excess water so that the sponge is damp, and push the product onto my face. Applying your tinted moisturizer/foundation with a damp beatyblender allows for a more flawless and dewy finish. I am hooked on this beauty tool and highly recommend it for all to try!
